Management Committee
Newlands Childcare is an Incorporated society of which all parents are members. A committee of parents
elected at the AGM or co-opted during the year manage the centre. Their responsibilities include, building
maintenance, staff selection, fundraising, developing and updating policies and organising social events. We
rely on the volunteer help of parents and family members and are grateful for time and energy given. We
value the skills of parents and appreciate any help.
The present chairperson Nick Urlich and committee members are Chantel Weavers, Jack Elder, Nathan Cook,
Luoise Corlett, Naima Soa-Lafoai. Lisa Mojsa and Jim McNutt.
They meet on the second Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm at the centre. Newcomers are very welcome.

Settling in
Beginning at a centre can be a big adjustment for families to make. Feel free to discuss any questions or
concerns you may have.We encourage visits before the child starts as often as is needed to be comfortable
with our routines and environment. All our teachers have calm warm manners with children and interesting
diversions to make the transition easier and find most children are happy to be with us within a short time.
Telephone calls during the day are a good way to reassure you that everything is fine. When the time comes
to leave, say goodbye and tell them who will be back to pick them up and then go quickly. We will contact
you if we feel your child is distraught at any time. All children have different needs so please speak to a
teacher if you have any concerns.

Profile Books
Each child will have a book recording their learning and experiences at our centre, we encourage families to
add to this book as well.

Food
At the centre we encourage “healthy food”. Please read our food policy. We have children with allergies so please no nut products.

Incident reports
If your child is hurt we fill out an incident report and place this in your pocket please sign and return. Whenwe fill out incident reports we name only the injured child. The teachers at our centre always address issueswith the children at the time. They have a good understanding of what actually happened, and what stageof development the children are at. Could you please support us in this to protect and respect the childrenby not blaming or asking your child who was involved.ArtworkYour child may produce some wonderful artwork; these are put in their lockers for families to take home, displayed on the wall or used in their profile books.InformationNewsletters, updated policies, fundraising details, and other interesting material iare distributed to parentsusing mail pockets on the wall, and/or E-mails, please remember to check these regularly. Please advise us ifyour email address changes.

Smoking
We are a smoke free zone so please no smoking on our premises, car park, on centre trips or within sight ofthe children. We want to provide a healthy environment and set good role models for their future health.

20 Hours ECE
We support the 20 hours for three and four year olds.ClothesPlease dress your child in clothes that are suitable for painting and messy activities as they will have plentyof opportunities to be involved in this valuable play. All clothes and belongings need to be clearly named.Provide at least one change of clothes.
